Capitola Beach smoking ban spreads; Capitola beach restaurants join, are homes next?

While the ban on smoking on the beach in Capitola has been in effect for awhile, the city council took divided action to enact a smoking ban in the majority of the touristy parts of Capitola.Homes are still a safe haven for the addicted, but the outdoor and indoor smoking bans are becoming more common.
While Capitola real estate is largely unaffected by such a ban, there is undeniable dislike from the buying public in general for homes that have been occupied by smokers. For those who come to the beach to relax or enjoy a meal, smelling smoke is an unpleasant experience.
The areas that will be affected are the general downtown areas of the Capitola esplanade, starting from near the Venetians, and around to the old theater. City Hall is also to join the no smoking areas.
Personally I think the smoking ban should be in most public areas and in the downtown Capitola area, it is. Capitola Wharf is also affected. Smoking is one of those insidious habits that have sneakily come back to many youth, as it has been frequently portrayed once again, as cool, in the movies.
There is no argument this time around of it being anything but an unhealthy habit. I for one would be glad to see smoking bannded or reduced in it's use in movies as there appear to be no upsides to the habit, and plenty of downsides in the form of a huge range of health costs. Youth will always want to be "cool" as I wanted to be, but maybe drinking water of playing hacky sack or some other better activity can be invented by the young and take hold.
In the meantime I don't think that people are going to shy away from the restaurants because they can't smoke. If their addiction has such a hold on them, they can stay home and smoke and do their fine cooking there, but I think the experience will be greater for those others in the great majority who don't smoke.
Small steps taken can lead to big changes in behavior at Capitola Beach. Real estate will always remain in demand here and as people love to come down to the Capitola Village and enjoy themeselves at the seaside. The no smokng ban will have little negative affect in time I predict. This Mediterranean climate and lovely, easily walked downtown, are a favorite to all, and can be now enjoyed smoke free. While some foreign tourists will no doubt be surprised they cannot smoke here,as they seem to be more heavily marketed to by our tobacco companies, hopefully they will be given a warning.
