Cellulosic Bio Fuels Conference in Washington: Santa Cruz, Ca. housing could feel the impact: Bio Fuels Conference

Posted by Gregg Camp on Wednesday, November 18th, 2009 at 12:00pm.

The 4th annual Cellulosic  Bio Fuels Conference is underway in Washington from November 16th and 19th. The event is to "provide an exceptional venue for the various communities in the cellulosic biofuels value chain to come together, discuss their most recent activities in advancing industry commercialization and report on the progress they are making in addressing the key technical, organizational, economic and financial challenges facing the industry.

Themes that will be highlighted in this year’s edition include the increasing involvement of the oil industry in cellulosic biofuels development and the progress of plant developers to get an assortment of biorefineries built and operating in order to provide the feedback needed to move to large-scale production. The Summit offers a rich opportunity for offline discussions, where everyone has the opportunity to network with other groups in the value chain and establish ongoing relationships. "

As we all felt a year ago as people speculated in oil and drove the investors to many different cellulosic projects, the potential is there, but where. Worldwide, we had corn shortages, which created cost increases for the most basic food staple in Mexico, the corn tortilla. As the worlds largest corn producer, our insatiable energy demand and entrepenueristic fervor caused a ripple across the world as the need for cheaper, more eco-friendly energy sources were examined. The basic need is still there, though there was a huge fallout as these new business models were based on an inflated energy cost model, with oil being specualated up to $147 dollars per barrel.

While I think this ultimately will be good, there was trememdous economic loss and pain from this rush to create a new business source for energy. The Under Secretary of the U.S. DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY, Kristina M. Johnson, will be a keynote speaker at the conference.

A whole host of Bio fuels organizations are supporting this event as it is imperative we move away from oil as our primary energy source.

So how was Santa Cruz real estate affected? What I have found in showing and selling Santa Cruz homes is that more people have been aware of the cost of energy in looking at energy efficient features. Some are considering eco friendly homes.

While energy efficiency now is our cheapest form of energy savings, many are looking to live in more urban settings where they can walk to stores or schools as opposed to getting into their cars for everything. Santa Cruz, Ca housing, while less expensive than in the past, is still expensive compared to many communities, yet the concerns are the same. Some advanced websites allow the Santa Cruz home buyers to see graphically and easily which homes have those community features nearby.

Energy usage can improve and I feel that these sort of conferences will focus on genetic advances in cell break down and identify other non food plants and organizms that can have a positive energy impact on our society.Right now there is nothing even close to the cost and energy output from a barrell of oil. So to do your part, ride your bike more, live closer to the stores and schools your family will use and get and energy audit to conserve energy. Growing your own garden is also a great way to do so and have fresh organic produce as well.
