Monterey Ocean Front home to the fun and joy by the sea
Posted by Gregg Camp on Friday, September 24th, 2010 at 7:28pm.The Monterey Bay includes eighty-eight miles of breathtakingly beautiful
coastline. People visit the Monterey oceanfront for many reasons. Some
come for sporting activities such as sailing and fishing. Others come
for an opportunity to see the many species of marine life and still
others come to sample the fabulous seafood. Some come to here to buy a Monterey oceanfront home. What could be better than living with the Monterey Bay. Homeowners here get to live and love all of what the area affords.
For those wanting to experience water related sports and activities,
Monterey Bay is the place. North of Monterey, in Marina, Seaside and the
Fort Ord Dunes, one will find parasailing and hang gliding. In the city
of Monterey, beaches along Cannery Row invite waders, kayakers and sea
life enthusiasts. Monterey diving is also pretty here and in the surrounding areas.
The Monterey State Beach is one of the best beaches in the area for
small children, due to the easing of the sand out into the water. For
someone seeking exercise along the beach, one can follow this Monterey
oceanfront all the way to Seaside. On a clear sunny day, the views are spectacular.
Some beaches such as Asilomar in Pacific Grove are wheel chair accessible, while others such as Moss Beach allow horseback riding.
The
white sands and dog friendly atmosphere of Carmel Beach attract many
locals and visitors to the area as well as Monterey. Oceanfront bonfires and beach side
weddings are a common sight. In Big Sur, to the south, one can visit
Jade cove, so named for the abundance of the popular green stone.
In addition to the great water sport activities, the entire area is part
of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.
The endangered sea otter lives there freely as do other species such sea lions, dolphins and whales. Seeing one of these magnificent creatures in its natural habitat is a real possibility along the Monterey oceanfront.
Of course, the famous Monterey Bay Aquarium is in Monterey as well. Marine life at the aquarium includes crustaceans, amphibians, sea mammals, fish, reptiles, invertebrates, and octopus type creatures, including the giant pacific octopus. If you lived in a Monterey ocean front home, you would no doubt see the sea creatures on your walks.
Additionally, one need only walk to the end of the pier at Fisherman’s
Wharf and feed sea lions and harbor seals that have become quite adept
at begging. Sea creature watching is not limited to the city of
Monterey.
Along the scenic seventeen mile drive, one can stop and view
seal rock which appears to be a rest stop for harbor seals. Be sure to
take binoculars to get the best view.
Dolphins have been visible past
the breakers at Marina. Walking along any part of the Monterey
oceanfront may include a chance encounter. Tide pools contain all sorts
of interesting creatures, and along with marine mammals, the bay is home
to 345 fish species.
If one’s interest leans more toward eating fish than seeing it, one can
still find what he or she is looking for in the bay area. While you might not have this uninvited guest at your Montery oceanfront home, visitors relish on seeing the marine life up close.
Monterey was
once a center of commercial sardine fishing. Every August, the city
celebrates its fishing history with the Monterey Seafood Celebration and
Fisherman’s Days, which includes historical exhibits about Monterey’s
fishing industry, education on current commercial fishing conditions and
local restaurants highlighting the best seafood in Monterey.
Oceanfront dining at places like The Old Fisherman’s Grotto tops the
list with a family friendly atmosphere and occasional entertainment from
nearby pelicans, who would love to share the meal. Abolonetti
Restaurant specializes in calamari and other squid dishes. Over fifty
other seafood-serving restaurants operate in and near Monterey.
Oceanfront activities for those who enjoy being in the water or just
near it can be found throughout the Monterey Bay area. Whether ones
taste runs to crab or blackened sea bass, sailing or diving, bird or
whale watching, anyone can find his or her favorites in and near
Monterey.Ocean front living is a kaleidescope of sights sounds and smells that one rarely forgets and are reminded of each day you step out of the front door of your home.
