Get in shape - follow the trails to the S.F.B. Morse Botanical Reserve in the hills of the Del Monte Forest in Pebble Beach. This 86-acre woodland oasis was referred to as Evolution Hill and was nearly destroyed in the 1960s if not for the intervention of California Native Plant Society established by G. Ledyard Stebbins; a botanist and geneticist widely known as evolutionary biologists of the 20th century.
The S.F.B. Morse Botanical Reserve is managed by the Del Monte Forest Foundation. It winds across the ancient marine terraces of Huckleberry Hill, the highest point in Pebble Beach, passing through the trail of coastal live oaks, Bishop pine, Monterey pine, Monterey cypress, a pygmy forest of Gowen cypress and creekside redwoods.
