As I was thinking about some of the Carmel eco-friendly homes I have seen, I started to think about an interesting company. It is located in the tiny seaside town of Moss Landing and is named Calera. This innovative company is working to create eco-friendly cement. The location is adjacent to the Dynegy Moss Landing facility. Most of us know it by the massive twin towers as we look around the Monterey Bay.The Moss Landing power plant runs on natural gas, which while cleaner than the oil PG&E used to burn still gives off lots of CO-2. That is where Calera in part comes in.

Calera has been testing its technology at its plant in Moss Landing, across the street for the last 3 years.The startup company has garnered tens of millions…
