Carmel Homes for sale
Situated on the fabled Monterey Peninsula, 125 miles south of San Francisco, Carmel-by-the-Sea is cosmopolitan with a continental ambiance, yet decidedly quaint with a small town feel. To preserve the town’s special appeal and the value of Carmel real estate, the city fathers have passed special ordinances. There are no fast-food restaurants, neon signs or parking meters. Carmel homes have no street numbers and there is no door-to-door mail delivery. Even Clint Eastwood, former Carmel mayor, must get his mail at the post office.
These are only some of the reasons that Carmel real estate has managed to maintain its appeal and value. Another is Carmel’s role as the area’s cultural hub, boasting the Carmel Bach Festival, Carmel Music Society and the Monterey County Symphony that perform in the spectacular Sunset Center, which recently underwent multi-million dollar renovation. There is also Pacific Repertory Theater, the Monterey Jazz and Monterey Blues festivals and The Carmel Art Festival. These all add to the value of the Carmel real estate market.
Just south of town is the beautifully restored Carmel mission, established in 1770 by Father Junipero Serra, and is the second oldest of California's 21 Spanish missions. Just two miles north, adding to the appeal of owning a Carmel home, is the world-renown Pebble Beach, home to some of the best golf courses in the country.
Carmel is friendly, and not just to humans. Many hotels welcome dogs and the town’s merchants put out bowls with fresh water for thirsty canine customers. Protection of privacy is an accepted norm and celebrities feel comfortable walking around town or dining in one of Carmel’s fine restaurants.
Carmel real estate offers a beguiling blend of rustic cottages, shingled beach houses, modern see-through glass homes and log cabins. If you search the Carmel MLS for homes you will find that Carmel real estate does not come cheap.
If you’re lucky enough to live in a Carmel home, you will enjoy moderately warm temperatures year round, with an average high of 65° F and an average low of 48° F.
