When looking for homes for sale in Pacific Grove, one of the first questions on the mind of potential buyers is the quality of education. The Pacific Grove Unified School District is ranked overall as the highest of all public schools on the Monterey Peninsula. The 6th largest city in Monterey County, Pacific Grove also has the lowest crime rate. In fact, it is the probably the only city in the U.S. where it is illegal to molest a monarch butterfly. There is a simple explanation for that ordinance. Pacific Grove is known as “Butterfly Town U.S.A.,” being the site for the annual migration of the monarch butterfly who call Pacific Grove home each winter. Thousands of Monarch butterflies cluster together on the pines and eucalyptus on a few select acres in Pacific Grove. The Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary is open during the wintering season from late October through early-March.

Other favorite events include December's Christmas at the Pacific Grove Inns, a holiday celebration at Pacific Grove hotels and bed and breakfast inns.

Summer brings the Feast of Lanterns, a pageant based on a Chinese folk tale. In its early history, Pacific Grove was a thriving Chinese fishing village. The autumn Butterfly Parade heralds the return of the monarch butterflies, which migrate to spend each winter in the pine groves. Also in October, there is a Pacific Grove home tour of the beautifully restored Victorian homes. It's a celebration for history and architecture buffs and is usually sold-out. Make sure to book your Pacific Grove Inn or hotel early.
