Pebble Beach is a magical, beautiful place that attracts visitors from around the world. However, it can get cool and foggy during certain parts of the year. Many visitors expect Pebble Beach and the surrounding coastline to be warm and sunny during summertime, but they are shocked to find foggy weather in June, which the locals dub “June Gloom”.
So, when is the best time to visit Pebble Beach?
Well, it depends on what type of events you like and the type of weather you’re seeking.
Do you want to visit Pebble Beach, February 9 - 15, 2015, when the AT&T is playing?
How about visiting Pebble Beach in August during Auto Week and the Concours d’ Elegance?
Or, experience Pebble Beach in September and October when the weather is gorgeous?
From our local perspective, here are some of the best times to visit Pebble Beach.
If you just want to surround yourself with Mother Nature’s beauty and some of the best golfing in the world, come to Pebble Beach any time you desire. However, if weather
and events are your focus, let’s break it down into seasons.
Late Autumn through Winter:
November - February is our typical rainy season. As Fall progresses into Winter, expect stormy weather, rain jackets, warm gloves, scarves, and winter coats. Even though it gets cold and drizzly during this time frame, it’s still very mild compared to places where it snows. It doesn’t snow here and rarely on the coast do we see anything freeze. Yes, you can still play a great game of golf, but expect the wind to knock your ball around a little more than usual.
March - May is when gorgeous spring flowers bloom along the peninsula. Visitors have been known to label our ubiquitous ice plant as “purple grass”, which they see growing along the recreational trail that stretches from Pebble Beach to Marina. The California poppies with their bright orange hue are beautiful as well.
When most people think of visiting the coast during summer, they assume warm waters, swimsuits, and tanning lotion. Not so, June through August, in Pebble Beach. We
call it “June Gloom” when it’s more like “soup weather”. However, this cool weather is particularly appealing to visitors from hotter regions in the country, namely California’s Central Valley and Texas. If you hate to sweat, you’re going to love putting on a sweater and warming yourself by the fire pits at Spanish Bay. Why else would so many Texans and folks from Fresno buy a second home in Pebble Beach? So they can get away from the heat, that’s why!
